Commissioner of Police, Efunsola Sowermimo, joins LEAHN as Country Focal Point in Nigeria

 

LEAHN is pleased to announce Commissioner of Police, Efunsola Sowermimo, has joined the growing team of Country Focal Points (CFPs). She will join the global network of police and law enforcement officers who support and promote harm reduction approaches. Commissioner Sowermimo has extensive experience in HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention. Read her bio below:

Efunsola Sowermimo is a Commissioner of Police and a public health physician in Nigeria.  She is the Police Public health officer and Deputy National Coordinator of the Police Action Committee on HIV/AIDS (PACA). Commissioner Sowermimo has been actively involved in coordinating medical outreach and facility services for anti-retroviral therapy.

Commissioner Sowermimo ensures that all Nigeria Police Medical Services (NPMS) and facilities in the 36 states and Federal Capital Territory provide Counseling and Testing services. The 2018- 2022 Strategic Plan for the Police Action Committee on HIV/AIDS has been launched. The program recently conducted a survey with 2000 officers on Knowledge, Attitude and Practices with respect to HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention. In 2018,  PACA held rallies and free Counselling and Testing in police institutions and public places nationwide.”
